Italian SK READ: A Comparison Between a Normal Sighted and a Scotoma Population

Cognitive anticipation of words from context as it happens on the MN-READ chart can ease reading and conceal hurdles due to central scotomas as found on common newsprint. SK-READ shares the same structure as MN-READ (60-character paragraphs of decreasing size on a log scale), but it differs in the fact that words and letters are randomly arranged, thus avoiding perceptual completion. English SK-READ has proven effective in relating reading errors to central scotomas. An Italian version of the test was created with the same rationale.
